Six nights to relax, refresh, and recuperate
We have just returned from six nights at Palm Cove in far North Queensland. And it was fantastic. It was very special to be able to go (thanks Qantas FF points for the flights and Gran and Pop for the free accommodation!) and marked ten years since we were in Palm Cove for our honeymoon!
We hired a Landrover Discovery Sport and just did whatever we felt like; some days we did nothing but walk on the beach, drink coffee, drink cocktails and sit on the balcony of our apartment overlooking the pool (and more drinking!).
It’s the first holiday we’ve ever taken that was all about relaxing; the only thing we had booked in was a guided Croc spotting JetSki tour which left from the Cairns marina (unfortunately only Dad saw the tail of a small croc as we did the tour on high tide so no big crocs!). We did make it to the Daintree (where we saw a Cassowarry!) as well as Kuranda (which is now way too touristy to be enjoyable).
Mum got swooped by Plovers and we were astounded to see so many baby cane toads as we made the regular trek from the Sebel Palm Cove apartment to the beach (a 10 minute stroll past some lovely houses).
In no time at all the six nights were up and we were ready to head home, missing our little ones very much. And it was on the last full day that we saw a Croc on Palm Cove beach! It was around 2.5m long and was fighting against a strong current to get back to the estuary where it came from. It caused the beach to be closed and drew quite a crowd.

General update
There feels like there is so much going on right now. Between work, Uncle Tim, Addi growing way too fast, and two very energetic boys who regularly battle for supremacy, life is full-on.
We recently had a wonderful time at Floriade. It's become a bit of a family tradition (along with several million other people) to spend time wandering the flowers. But this year the weather was particularly special, and it was a lovely day made all that much better by spending it with Gran and Pop. Linc still hates the ferris wheel (but went on!) as does Addi...

Happy 7th birthday Carter
A small family gathering was held to celebrate Carter's 7th birthday and there was lots of yummy cupcakes as well as Carter's favourite type of cake - buttercake with icing and maltesers!
He loved his brand new scooter, but it's already causing issues as it's a lot better than Lincoln's scooter; maybe Santa will be good to Lincoln this year?!

Trip to the coast (finally!)
We finally made it down the coast. Although we knew the weather wasn't going to be perfect, it's been difficult to find an ideal weekend. Sunday was by far the best day with a top of 22 deg; however, the water was absolutely freezing so there wasn't a lot of swimming going on (of course, the boys got quite wet, but didn't go all that far into the water like they normally do!).
At first Addi wasn't too sure about the sand; although this turned out to be a dislike for the dry sand... the wet sand she had no problem with and kept sprinting straight into the water which kept Mum busy saving her life over and over and over!
It started raining overnight (last night) and didn't stop; so this morning we got up, packed and came straight home (it didn't stop raining once...)... The trip was also a reminder of how expensive everything is these days - try $40 for a McDonalds breakfast for everybody (since when have hash browns been $2 each?!)

Life lived, but the blog is unloved...
Having three kids is not easy. It makes life very busy. It means that certain things just aren't going to get done when prioritisation of the multitude of tasks is a key activity in of itself. Therefore the blog doesn't get updated. But honestly, there hasn't been a lot to write about as we battle through a particularly cold winter (-10 deg!) with the same blanket of sickness descending onto the family on a regular basis.
Sounds a bit dramatic, but we desperately need a holiday. At the beach. To build sand castles and to let the kids yell and shout and chase each other around without worrying about Mum and Dad telling them to shut-up cause Addi is sleeping. But finances have been directed elsewhere (like Addi's specialist appointment to get her blocked tear duct checked out...which was a complete waste of time), so a holiday at the moment is not going to happen. But in happier news we have booked four nights at Kiama in December with the Richardson family. It's been a long time since we holidayed with them at Kiama, and the kids are very excited.
So a bit of an update on each of the kids, starting with Lincoln.
Lincoln is growing so fast, and it's never more apparent than when he plays AFL; he's really starting to get stuck in, including getting a bit physical with the opposing team. He even won player of the match the other week (partly due to the fact he was the only one to score a goal in the team!). But his sensitive nature is still strong, and he's very aware of people's emotions.
Carter has also been playing AFL (in the Rookies); I use the term 'playing' quite loosely as it's really just a social thing at the moment. Without his friend Ewan by his side, he finds it all quite boring... He has a very strong personality, and I think he and Linc are going to have some interesting interactions in the years ahead. His fiery nature (which rarely shows itself) can be a little alarming, and Linc really needs to be more aware when he starts pushing Carter's buttons!
Addi is one incredible human being. She is very intelligent, and her vocabulary is simply amazing. She can even answer questions: "Would you like a bath or a shower?" "Ahhhhh.... shower... " it's so beautiful. She loves her brothers too, and it tugs at the heart strings when she insists on giving them a kiss goodnight and says nigh, nigh...(she can say 'Carter', but not 'Linc' yet)... She's had her fair share of sickness this winter; a couple of beauties in fact that lasted weeks. But she's pretty resilient and has handled it quite well. The only downside to the sickness is the amount of days at childcare she has missed - where we still have to pay, even if she doesn't attend. And at $113 a day (minus the child care rebate) it's not cheap.
She's a handful though, and can be very demanding, wanting to be picked up all the time - usually at the worst possible time, like in the middle of getting dinner ready!
And Mum has been handling it all really well. Especially since Dad is traveling interstate most weeks, which just adds to the pressure of having to get everything done.
