Linc's photo shoot with Creative Image Photography

Our family room was temporarily turned into a photographic set today as we had Steve Murray from Creative Image Photography http://www.creativeimage.com.au/ come and photograph Linc and Mum and Dad (as a gift from Mum's family [thanks!!]). Steve also photographed Mum and Dad's wedding and he's extremely good (he won 2nd prize in the AIPP awards for a photo he took at our wedding [slide 27 in his gallery]) and is an all round nice guy. Linc was very well behaved, only peeing about 4 litres over Mum and Dad during the session. As a result, poor old Steve has some washing to do (including the lovely backdrop below)...Will post some photos of the shoot when we get them back!

There's been a few comments that Linc looks like his Dad when he was a baby - you can decide for yourself.

Lincoln visits Belconnen Mall

Isn't it amazing that it's not until you have a baby that you become aware of just how many Mum's and babies are at the shops during the week... It's called your reticular activating system (RAS) and is quite an interesting phenomenon - it's worth googling. Put simply, your reticular activating system is like a filter between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind. It takes instructions from your conscious mind and passes them on to your subconscious. In our case, we have a brand new baby, so Dad's subconcious mind is now noticing other babies - whereas before he wouldn't have. Another example is that you will find that you'll notice more cars of the type you have just bought on the road - wow I never knew there were so many Nissan Micras around - there's not more of them, it's just that you are noticing them!!! Anyway, Mum, Dad and Linc visited the Mall again today, and yet again, Linc had to stop Dad as we walked past Bras'n'things... And after all the excitement we just had to take a load off and down a muffin and a cappucino...

It appears Linc is actually starting to accept that bathtime is one of the more relaxing activities, and Mum and Dad were pleased to see he quite enjoyed this bath - until five minutes after when he absolutely screamed (he hates having his bits out at the best of times).

Whilst at first Logan and Tia (our two burmese cats) weren't too keen on Linc, they have finally warmed to him and only get annoyed when he screams, rather than frightened. Here is Linc and Logan having a chat on the couch...

Faces of a 3 week old Lincoln

On thursday we took Linc to get weighed, just to make sure he's growing nicely. For background, when Linc was born he was 3.07kg. On leaving the hospital he was 3.01kg (4/2). Six days later (10/2) he weighed 3.36kg (a 250g increase in one week is well above the expected 100-150g/wk). On Thursday (19/2) we weighed him again and he is now 3.58kg...
Every day we think our little man comes up with a new facial expression. Whilst at the moment most of the time he is grumpy (or feeding, or asleep) he still manages to give Mum and Dad a giggle...

18 days old

Time is going by SO quickly. Our little man is undergoing some significant physical changes as his face morphs from the newborn look to a baby look. We also think he is getting louder too - his screams could shatter glass, that's for sure... We went for a big walk today down to the ponds. We tried to find the baby ducks that are down there, but they must've been sleeping in the reeds. We also went for a very long drive this evening to visit Dad's work (so he could submit an application). Linc was pretty good until we started talking about Macca's sundaes for the trip home - and then he realised he wasn't getting one...

Mum's wonderful sister Chook took some gorgeous photos of the 'bump' - I love this one as it shows us reading to an unborn Lincoln about - you guessed it - Winnie-the-Pooh!

From a baby's point of view

Wouldn't it be great to know what a baby is thinking about? With so little knowledge about the world, everything must be pretty scary!

But we know there's some key things a baby needs: Parental company, food, comfortable temperature, clean nappy, iphone, sleep...

So much room for so much learning...

Two weeks old

Well time has flown. In the last few days Master Lincoln Jack has had a total of three outings now! The first outing was to the Belconnen Mall to do some window shopping. Dad had trouble getting him away from the Bras'n'things store due to the advertising material plastered on the shop windows. But it was a successful trip nonetheless with no crying at all!

The second trip was to our niece's engagement party. This was a big adventure as there was lots of people at the party and alcohol too - so we had to keep an eye on Linc to make sure he didn't indulge when we weren't looking. Unfortunately no photos of those outings as Mum and Dad were too worried about ensuring we had the 200kg of kit needed just to cater for bringing Linc along to the party!

Our third outing was today, and it wasn't much fun (we had to go to the Doctor). For a start Linc hasn't been sleeping well the last couple of nights - only getting 2 hrs 15 mins as a maximum stint- and so Mum and Dad are also suffering (Mum moreso). But to make matters worse, Mum got mastitis - despite doing everything the midwives told her to prevent this - and now has a fever and is quite ill. Anyway, two weeks on, here is just three of the many faces of our little man!

Bath time!

We gave Linc a bath this arvo since it's a lot cooler today than it has been (Canberra got to 40 degrees last week!). He doesn't appear to like it very much - which is odd since Dad loves his baths! Maybe Dad should have passed him a good book (or the latest Motor magazine).

Lincoln is introduced to Top Gear

You may wonder what a photo of lightning has to do with the new bubby - well it's because Dad now doesn't have the freedom to head off photographing storms like he used to. So this photo of lightning hitting Telstra Tower will probably be the best lightning photo for quite some time...:

A.A. Milne would be very happy to see that we have chosen the Winnie-the-Pooh theme for Linc's bedroom. With wall hangings, rugs, bed linen and wall borders we are surrounded by Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore and Roo. (It's also gender neutral to cover us when we have another baby!)...

Sleep!

We are both very excited today as Linc slept a whole 4 hours IN A ROW last night! Slowly starting to feel more normal again, rather than walking around in a semi-concious daze...

And everybody was amazed at the size of Linc's feet. No idea what that means, but perhaps we should be getting him into swimming from an early age?

From the moment he was born we knew he was ours. He's got Dad's paddle-shaped thumb and Mum's double-jointedness...

It didn't take long for Linc to start winning over the ladies. His tactics included using his steel gray eyes to mesmerise the girls before flashing them one of his (wind inspired), Zoolander type grins...works every time.

Lincoln's adventures

Whilst still only a week old, Lincoln has managed to have a few adventures - one of these was his very first relaxing soak in the hot tub. Well, a bath actually. And well it wasn't exactly relaxing as evidenced by his rather harsh vocalisation...

nb- we think he looks a bit like one of Gran Nicholas's frogs...!

Our first post...

What better to reason to start a blog than the birth of our first child...?! We are so excited to announce a very healthy and happy Lincoln Jack born last week. Weighing in at 3070g, he's 48cm tall with a head circumference of 35.5cm. He's an absolute cutey and both Mum and Dad are having a ball meeting the challenges that face us as brand spankin' new parents...!

He looks so wincy in his giant cot - and what a wonderful sight to see him sleeping so we can get some 'couple time'.
