Lincoln and some cousins...

Linc is a lucky little fella' to have such a large number of cousins... This is Will and Bec, who just adore holding him!!! (Linc is 9 wks old in this photo). And with cousin Rach at Easter (10 wks)

Chilly autumn evening

Linc came out and helped Dad put up the bamboo fencing tonight. It was a bit chilly so he stayed in the baby bjorn with Mum, who made sure he had his new beanie on (thanks Nerissa and Marty!)...

Linc's first visit to BUNNINGS

Dad had to duck down to Bunnings today to pick up a roll of bamboo fencing. Mum and Linc came with him, and boy was that a mistake! Linc dragged everybody around to every aisle in Bunnings thinking that all of his christmas's had come at once! Suffice to say Linc maxxed out his credit card and has now planned a number of projects around the home, starting with a cubby-house with its own second storey deck and planetarium... Then I think he may have woken up...!

But it certainly topped off a fantastic weekend, with Linc getting heaps of sleep - for example - Friday night: 9hrs, Saturday night: 7.5 hrs, Sunday night: 9.5 hrs... Can you believe it?!! It seems that Mum's decision to start his last feed at 8pm is working as he now seems to be sleeping through the night - quick, find some wood to touch!!!

Eye colour

It's an amazing thing, eye colour - i found this on the net, which is quite interesting:

In a blue eye there is not much melanin in the anterior border layer. The light passes into the stroma where the collagen fibres scatter the light back as blue. In a green eye (or a hazel one) there is a variable level of melanin, so that some of the light is absorbed by the melanin and some is scattered by the collagen. The brown layer looks yellow as it is thinner, and so the yellow and blue mix to make green.

Well there you go. And this net excerpt explains why brown eyes are so dominant and why green are so unusual:

Your eye colour is determined by your genes. When you are made two sex cells join: one from your mother and one from your father. These cells to some extent determine what you will look like.Each gene is made up of two alleles: these can be either dominant or recessive (a dominant allele dominates a recessive allele). Eye colour will be determined by your parents for example: if both your parents have brown eyes and their alleles are the same (homozygous brown) or (BB) the child will definitely have brown eyes.It is however possible for a person with brown eyes to have a blue eyed allele. Blue is recessive: therefore if you have 1 blue allele and one brown allele you will have brown eyes. Your gene will be (Bb) B= brown and b=blue. If two people with this gene (Bb) have a child there is a 1 in 4 chance that it will have blue eyes. Because the blue allele is recessive you will only have blue eyes if your gene is (bb). Therefore two blue eyed people will definitely have a blue eyed baby. Green is the most recessive eye colour this means that both blue and brown is dominant over it.

It also goes on to say that most babies have blue eyes - but these can and often do change. Apparently a baby's eye colour should stabilise around the 6 mth mark.

A visit from Aunty Joyce

Well this weekend it was an absolute pleasure to have Dad's Aunty Joyce visit from Adelaide. Lincoln took an instant liking to her and regularly gave her smiles throughout her stay. I think Aunty J thought that was very special! Linc was also lucky to get a beautiful present of some socks, a bib, a little suit and a singlet all done up to look like a bunch of flowers - it was very clever!

4925g 16 April

An update on the weight situation - Linc now weighs 4925g (10lb 14oz). He's about 59cm long now too and is around the 50th percentile for height, but only just over 10th percentile for weight - so he's long and lean - just like a greyhound!!!

10 weeks old

We are so pleased to report that the family has had their first holiday, and it went exceptionally well! On friday the family drove to Bowral to meet Marty, Nerissa and their kids Isabelle (2yrs) and Jeremy (5mths) and Shane and Erika and their son Anthony (9mths). We stayed the night at the Briars Historic Inn and Resort and we all had such a good time. Linc slept almost the whole way there in the car (1hr 45min) and woke up when we got there just in time to meet his new friends Anthony, Jeremy and Isabelle! 4625g 1 April

Today Linc had his vaccinations. It was horrible. Two needles the size of lamp posts were plunged into him - one in each leg - in what appeared to be a very haphazard fashion. Dad had to restrain himself from reaching over to the nurse and doing the same to her with a nearby pen... but seriously, it was pretty awful for Linc too - his whole little body tensed up when the needles went in, and he cried a cry which we haven't heard before... but as a result he's slept a lot today - and is still sleeping - he has also had 3 hourly feeds to keep his fluids up. He was weighed and he is 4625g - an increase of 255g in two weeks.

Also as an update as to his development - his record for talking is 'ahh - goo goo' which was said to Dad two days ago (Mum had previously only gotten 'ahh - goo' out of him)...what's also amusing is how when he sneezes he has a big sigh afterwards, kind of like he enjoys a sneeze - but what's even more comical is when he gets robbed of a sneeze where his little face goes into the pre-sneeze look, before it's taken away with Linc exclaming - 'ahhhhhhhhhhh' in a descending tone...
