Linc prepares for his first plane trip

This weekend the family is off on their first BIG holiday. First challenge is getting up in time to catch a flight to Brisbane (at 6.05am) then from Brisbane it's on to Cairns for a few days to catch up with the travelling Grandparents. From there it's a direct flight to Darwin to see Aunty Suze. Mum and Dad are sure looking forward to the challenge of keeping Linc entertained whilst on the plane!

In the meantime Linc continues to grow well, and is eating solids and loving it (yep, even the pumpkin!). His sitting is improving, but he still sometimes overbalances with his 50 to 90th percentile head!

Linc hosted the mums and bubs group this week and did a fine job. He certainly kept them in line along the way as demonstrated in the below photo. Here Linc is telling everyone to be quiet as he's telling a story!

Good sitting!

Well Linc has now started to get the hang of sitting without being held. He still isn't good enough to be left on his own, as he has a topple every now and then, but he's certainly gotten so much better at it over the last couple of days.

7610g 10 August

Linc had his six month checkup yesterday. It all went very well, with Linc winning over the staff at the centre (of course!).

He's gained 905 grams since the last weigh-in (about 5 weeks ago), is now 69cm tall (a gain of 4.5cm) and head circumference is now 45.5cm. So he's now in the 50th-90th percentile for height and head circumference, and in the 10th-50th percentile for weight.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which way you look at it) today he had his 6mth vaccinations - one in each leg - so he's quite grumpy this arvo and Dad doesn't blame him...poor little guy!

Linc's first 'baby' word!

Lincoln battling a cold

Well it's been a stressful few days as Linc battles his illness. Each night gets just a little better, but it's awful to see him cough and then screw his mouth up in pain - poor little guy. Anyway, he's hopefully on the mend, but still has a fair bit of congestion, so Mum may take him to the Doc tomorrow anyway.

But, with sickness has come progress, weirdly enough. Linc has said his first 'baby' word - BUB...BUB....BUB....BUB.... This first happened on Friday 31/7 during the day and Mum called Dad all excited. Dad thought that he would be unlikley to hear it that night, but was pleasantly surprised when Linc gave another BUB BUB rendition! Since Friday Linc has done it so often that Dad was even able to record some on his iPhone - it's so exciting. We think it may be that Linc thinks his voice sounds weird (cause of the cold) so he's vocalising more.

In another update we have also been giving Linc some baby food in the form of Apple & Mango puree. He actually seems to like it, but is still battling with the finer points of eating (gob open, food in, food STAY in, swallow...! - instead the food tends to come out before the swallow - but he's getting there...!).

And today the whole family went to Bec's 5th birthday party and it was so lovely to see Gran and Pop and the Aunties, Uncles and cousins - but boy was it chilly!

Lincoln sick

Readers may recall that in the 29 may post it was thought Lincoln was coming down with a virus. Well that turned out to be a very, very mild one with only a small cough and nothing else.

Not like tonight.

It's one of the most stressful things that Mum and Dad have experienced - and i'm sure there's worse (like croup Aunty Chook - poor little Will man!) - but this is awful. He fights for breath as his throat and nose is full of yucky stuff and he just cries. He's hardly slept at all today and wouldn't eat much tonight so was put to bed earlier. It wasn't long before he woke again and it was like he couldn't draw a breath. It was so frightning. We gave him some panadol, took his temperature, and used some nasal spray to try and clear his nose - all the while he screamed his head off - but he is now sleeping, and fingers crossed he gets plenty of sleep. Poor little fella'.

And to top off a wonderful turn of events, Dad hurt his back last thursday (lifting a big lump of Lincoln!) and is still not in great shape, Mum hurt her shoulder around the same time, and now Mum has a viral infection...

Nothing much to report...

As the title suggests, nothing much to report on the home front. Linc is now eating solids with every 'dinner time' meal. At the moment it's mashed sweet potato and potato, or mashed vegetable mix depending on what's on the menu! It makes dinner time interesting; it's such a challenge to get it in his gob and not all over him!

Dad took this photo just before Mum put him to bed this afternoon (you should've seen the evil Dad got when the shutter noise woke him! But he fell right back asleep again-phew!)
